Incoming Potable Water Feed from Sydney Water to a Building

Sydney Water relies on its installed flowmeter to ascertain water use by a Client, and charges them accordingly. A sudden surge in the water bills was noted by this client and a detailed investigation was needed to address the issue.

With the help of our expertise, we found that the Sydney Water flowmeter was very accurate and there was no inaccuracy on the part of the flowmeter. Subsequently, attempts were made to visit downstream to see the flow pattern. On investigation it was found that there was a pipe burst at one of the locations and water was being lost at a section which would have gone unaccounted for if such specific spot check was not undertaken.

Sydney Water relies on its flowmeter to ascertain water use by a Client and charges them accordingly. The Sydney Water flowmeter is usually expected to perform in its accuracy specification; It was generally noted that the water billing was not optimum and the NABER ratings was low at 3.5.

With the help of our expertise, we found that the Sydney Water flowmeter was reading very high, approximately 35% higher. And on our report to the Building manager, Sydney Water has changed the Flowmeter. Now on rechecking the new meter the Accuracy is in the Sydney Water allowed accuracy range of the flow. The benefit of this exercise to the Building Manager now is a very considerable revenue saving.

Water Flow related issues within a high rise Building in Sydney CBD

There was an issue arising from the question on the number of tenants living in a unit in the CBD building on any given day of the week. It was very important to know how many people used the premises on any given day.

With the help of our expertise, we logged the water flow (both hot and cold water) into the unit for a period of a week to ascertain the water use pattern to help the owner conclude how many people might be using the unit and take corrective actions.

It is often a challenge to document the sewage output from business units, and, sometime an uphill task to satisfy the water authorities in quantifying the same.

We have a number of instances where we have been involved with the Client to devise a system of quantifying their sewage outflow and provide reports that has been used by them to obtain certification of clearance from the Authorities.

Water Flow related issues - Copper Mine Commissioning at Mt Isa, Queensland

The Commissioning of the Water Supply system to Copper Mine at Mt Isa required a very intricate system. The water Flow between the water source and the Mine Operational location, which is around 56 Km apart, is served by 5 pumping Stations. The commissioning required the flow between the Pumping Stations to be of a set minimum value and had to be continuous for a set period of time.
